Amy Poehler Upping Her Charm with Great Web Series Offering Advice to Girlscarolyncastiglia
Who doesn’t love (or at least like) Amy Poehler? The comedian and actress made a name for herself among comedy nerds as one of the founding members of The Upright Citizens Brigade (both the sketch group and the comedy theatre), then found mainstream success in her turn on Saturday Night Live. Though she currently stars in the popular NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, it’s her tiny little side project, the web series “Ask Amy” that has really proven just how much charm and heart this plucky funny woman has.
“Ask Amy” is a production of Smart Girls at the Party, a website/movement run by Poehler, Meredith Walker and Amy Miles. Their motto is, simply, “Change the world by being yourself,” an extremely important notion for young girls to embrace, and the antithesis of what is being sold to them by most women’s magazines. “Ask Amy” is on its fifth YouTube episode so far, with topics ranging from makeup to body image to how to deal with stress. I’ve embedded all five short episodes below. Give them a look when you have a minute! You’ll not only be moved by how sweet and empathetic Poehler is, but you’ll likely see her advice as a good reminder of how to deal with these issues in your own life, as well:
