Nearly 90,000 more drop-side cribs have been recalled in the United States. This time the recall involves the Bassettbaby crib sold in popular baby retailers through August of this year.
The crib, like many other drop side cribs that have already been recalled pose the risk of strangulation, or suffocation to infants. The drop-side portion of the crib can malfunction causing dangerous space between the railings and the mattress, which a child can become trapped.
Parents are advised to immediately stop using this crib, and order the repair kit through the manufacturer Bassettbaby. Parents can also call 1-800-308-7485 for information on obtaining the repair kit to fix the dangerous problem.
Unfortunately for parents and children all over the country, drop-side cribs have been getting a bad rap, rightfully so. Since they became popular there have been a number of recalls prompted by injured children, and many don’t think it will be long before the cribs are pulled off the market altogether or banned from being sold. I fully believe they should be banned completely. We have dismantled our own drop-side crib and transformed it into the toddler bed function out of fear for the product safety.
Just in the past couple months, StrollerDerby has reported on several drop-side crib recalls including the most recent in October in which Carolyn discusses the strong possibility of the cribs being banned altogether. Safe sleep spaces for our children are just as important as providing safe car seats, and alternative products in our day-to-day lives, and products that are simply unsafe should not be marketed at all.
First the drop side cribs, and next should be the fluffy crib bumpers that increase the risk of SID’s and suffocation of infants.
Do you think that drop-side cribs should be recalled completely?
