“Beth, I hear you callin’
But I can’t come home right now
Me and the boys are playin’
And we just can’t find the sound
Just a few more hours
And I’ll be right home to you
I think I hear them callin’
Oh, Beth what can I do
Beth what can I do.”
Oh, what what can you do?!? You can make a film about it!
Now if you are like me, when you’ve heard the 1976 Kiss ballad you’ve probably wondered, “who the hell is Beth.” But wonder no more, we now know the back story. Well, the back story as conceived by Bob Winter, the executive creative director at Crispin Porter + Bogusky ad agency in Miami.
He created a short film about who Beth could have been. And in this incarnation, she is Kiss member Peter Criss’s wife. A wife who wants to know when, oh when, will he come home. She has a meatloaf cooking, the kids are running around like crazies, and poor Beth is lonely. But what’s great, we don’t just hear the Kiss side of the story, we see Beth’s side of the story too, albeit a sad and lonely one. Genius. Check out the video here:
