Awesomely Awkward Family Pet Photos

By Monica Bielanko |

Yes, I'm just as guilty of the awkward pet photo but damn, I loved that dog.

I’m a dog lover. I’ve pretty much owned a dog my entire life. Not the same dog, of course, but you know what I mean.

For most of my adult life I’ve owned Max. He’s a Black Labrador Retriever who is absolutely awesome with my kids. A few years ago Milo became a part of our family.  He’s also a Black Lab Retriever who isn’t quite as careful around the kids. He’s full of love, just a little excitable.

I’ve taken thousands of photos of the dogs with the kids but never anything like what I’m seeing over on Awkward Family Pet Photos.

Okay, that’s a lie. I just remembered this photo shoot we surprised my mom with when I was 16 years old. That photo right up there is of me and my brothers and our beloved dog, Spliffy, who lived to the ripe age of 19. He just died last year. Yes, I had a small addiction to tanning beds. And shut up, matching denim totally rules. But listen, that photo is nothing compared to what you’re about to see.

Do you include your pet in family photos? Take a look at what some folks are hanging on the walls of the family room these days:

look at my cat’s butthole!!! :)

  4. Kira says:

I can’t believe the wedding picture… Not only because of the dogs, but the position that the photographer let the bride and groom keep their hands! Clearly the photographer had no idea what he was doing. They both look like they are about to claw something apart! LOL

  5. Julie says:

Frosty holding the ferrets is my favorite. People are so weird.

  6. LogicalMama says:

  9. GreenInOC says:

Now I totally understand why you don’t think you need professional photos of your family – you’re afraid this might happen again!!

  10. Susie says:

Wow. Just. Wow. I expected some of them to be your-average-every-day-sort-of weird. But no. Every last one of them is down-right disturbing.

  11. mama says:

I loved that picture when you gave it to me…and as you know, it IS still hanging in my house.

  12. anajo says:

oh gosh, it makes me laught so bad about this one”Do They Know He’s Up There?” good one!

  13. gina says:

What a hoot. My kind of Fridee night fun. Made me think how I included my dog in the wedding pics. It made perfect sense since we were taken at my house before we left for churchky.

  14. Juli says:

Some of those pets have the “someone please save me” look on their faces.

  15. Melissa says:

I remember that family photo of you. I loved it at the time.

  16. Corey M says:

These are so funny. My cheeks hurt from laughing so hard. I like funny photo series like this.

  17. Sloan says:

These are hilarious! The one with the bunnies, looks to me like mother/son… ? I think the cat is on a pedestal behind that couple, definitely sitting on something. The weird one with the family all wearing hats & holding objects… So strange! That’s not a stripper pole (who knows what it is) but what’s up with the kid in the back-seems out of place! Is s/he wearing a wig?

My hubby says skunks make good pets. You can get their enzyme sack or sprayer removed & evidently they are just like cats. His boss used to have one for a pet I guess. Weird huh?

  18. Tina says:

    These are soooo good.

  19. Janet says:

Holy crap are these funny! I totally snarfed my lunch while looking at these. Aw, man. Thanks for sharing….

  20. Danielle says:

    I think thats a HE !!

  21. Debra Stevens says:

The deal with skunks is that they can be very affection pets. A vet can remove the scent gland and they can be trained to walk on a lease. They do however required more attention then a cat or dog.

  22. Alice says:

I am definitely naming my next rooster “Harry Joe Larry”!

  23. Manda says:

These are so great. I giggled through them all. My favorites are the the cat behind the couple and the dog on the roof. As for the “stripper pole” I belive it’s a rifle with a really long barrel. Black powder maybe?
