Babble Bloggers Join Celebs to Promote "No Mother's Day," Raising Awareness About Maternal Death Ratecarolyncastiglia
Babble’s own Alisa Volkman and Catherine Connors are featured in a PSA, below, promoting Christy Turlington’s “No Mother’s Day” campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness about high maternal death rates around the world. According to Every Mother Counts, 1,000 women die each day as a result of pregnancy complications or while giving birth. While maternal death rates are very low in the US, they have actually been on the rise in recent years.
Tomorrow, May 5, is the International Day of the Midwife (so if you had one help you give birth, give her a call and say thanks!). Midwives play an especially important role in helping to decrease maternal mortality rates around the world, a UN report shows. And of course, next Sunday, May 13, is Mother’s Day. Turlington is urging all mothers take the to opportunity to “disappear,” in order to show the world what life would be like without us. Take a look:
