Baby Names — Ollie and Florence Rising Fast

Emily and Jacob might hold the number one baby name spot in America, but in the UK it’s Florence and Ollie that are quickly rising in popularity among new parents.

If you’re looking for a little baby name inspiration, look no further than Babynames.co.uk and their list of the UK’s fastest rising baby names.  Inspired by our own list of the top baby names of 2010 so far, the website’s editors did a little research to discover what names are climbing fast up the list in the UK.

Here’s how they did it:

Well, we’re constantly recording what people are searching for at BabyNames.co.uk (anonymously, of course!). This helps us generate unique insights into prospective parents’ baby name trends. For this report, we compared the popularity of names entered into our search engine Jan-Jun 2010 versus the same period in 2009. We did this by calculating the percentage increase in demand for each name.

And here are the top 10 results:

Girls:

  1. Florence
  2. Lucie
  3. Lacey
  4. Esme
  5. Elena
  6. Lucia
  7. Beatrice
  8. Violet
  9. India
  10. Frankie

These names aren’t just popular in the UK, many are starting to show up in the U.S. as well — we know two Frankie’s, a Cole, an Elena, and several Lucias.  Do you see any of your favorites on the list?
