Behold the Power: A Woman's Touch Makes Men Do Risky Things

By Lori Garcia |

Last week I shared the scientific finding that a man’s touch makes women hot. When I sensed the dudes were getting cocky, I decided to investigate the power of a woman’s touch.

You know what I learned? Science has confirmed that a woman’s touch increases risk-taking in men. Whoa, with great power comes great responsibility indeed!

According to Live Science, researchers believe the increased risk tolerance of men in response to female touch stems from infancy, since a mother’s touch offers a sense of security. How Freudian.

Male participants in the experiment were greeted by variations of touch by both men and women, and by no touch at all. After the greetings, participants were tested on how willing they were to engage in risk-taking behavior, such as gambling and financial investment decisions.

The results concluded that men who had been greeted by a woman’s touch not only felt more secure, but were more willing to engage in risk-taking behavior than those who weren’t touched or were greeted by a man’s touch.

So ladies, behold the power of even your most innocent touches. You gots the dangerous power over men; touch responsibility.

That’s an interesting idea, and I wonder how it fits in the with the sort of “nesting” instinct that seems to hit both men and women when they pair off exclusively and start nurturing a brood. You’d think there’d be plenty of touch from a woman in that scenario, but it seems that most men, especially fathers, start to mellow out and take fewer risks.
So, maybe this is a study that in reality measures what happens to men when they are touched by someone they are not accustomed to, someone who gets their blood pumping unexpectedly? Isn’t that what happens with affairs? Anyway, interesting to think about.
