I’ve only lived in Brooklyn for a little over a year, but I can still swell with borough pride for 17-year-old Lia Neal, who joins Team USA as a member of the 400m freestyle relay team. Lia is both African-American and Asian-American, and she is the second woman of African-American descent to swim for the U.S. in the Olympics. Lia trained at Manhattan’s Asphalt Green, and she’s very proud to be one of only a handful of Brooklyn Olympians. Here’s her story in her own words, as filmed by Jay-Z’s site Life and Times:
