Today we will discuss recording an interview, how to provide breaking news and guest posting.
– Record an interview with an expert in your field. Post it to your blog.
Adding rich media (e.g. video, podcasts, streaming media, etc.) to your blog or website instantly boosts both the dynamics and appeal. We mentioned earlier in the series about conducting interviews with star readers and people who comment often on your blog, but this takes it a step further by adding a new level of relevancy.
Interviewing an industry expert (i.e. a successful fellow blogger, social media expert, etc.) shows that, even with your infinite amount of knowledge and know how, you still have things to learn about your industry and are willing to share that information with your readers.
– Provide breaking news in your industry’s takeaways.
Sure, you can subscribe to an online PR service that sends you press releases regarding the latest and greatest a company has to offer, or you can take the initiative and break the news yourself by attending industry takeaways and then writing about them before the PR people do.
This method not only affirms your credibility as an online journalist (which is what bloggers are, generally speaking), it also gives you an edge over the competition who might be trying to write about the same subject matter. Hey, before you know it, those PR companies will be tapping you for some “exclusive information”.
– Feature guest posts from industry experts.
Showing that you can give up the reins on your blog to other industry experts does two things: provides fresh, new insight on time-tested subjects and gives you a break from having to create new content for your blog. It’s a win-win!
SocialMediaWeek.org runs a “Guest Blogger Series” which allows industry experts and leaders a chance to voice opinions to a new audience.
Aside from that, feature posts give you an opportunity to expand your blog’s audience. Any guest blogger is going to promote their work like crazy and make sure their friends, colleagues and cohorts know about it. This gives new exposure to your site while giving a guest blogger the same exposure. Again, another win-win.
