An American acting icon is gone. Ernest Borgnine – known for his Academy Award winning performance in Marty to voice overs for cartoons – died at the ripe old age of 95.
His work has spanned generations with our grandparents flocking to the theater to see his breakthrough role in Marty, we watched him on the 90’s sitcom The Single Guy, and our kids were introduced to him via his voice role as Mermaid Man on SpongeBob SquarePants. From the big screen to the small screen, from 1951 to a film that was finished in 2012, fromOscars to Bikini Bottom, Ernest Borgnine’s career was an very long and an eclectic. Plus he was in the United States Navy for ten years.
The acclaimed actor passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, reportedly with his family by his side.
He will be missed.
