The Academy Awards aren’t the only thing worth watching this weekend. The planets are aligning in a rare formation in tonight’s sky. Venus, Jupiter, and the moon will form a triangle and, according to Tony Phillips of Space Weather, ”these three objects are so bright, they shine through thin clouds and even city lights.”
In a site seen around the world, Mercury and Mars will also make an appearance after sunset and, tonight, Jupiter Venus and Mercury will form a diagonal line with Jupiter at the top and the moon appearing to the right of Jupiter.
Have cloudy or rainy weather? No worries! This celestial show isn’t over. It will continue on in March as Venus and Jupiter creep closer together in the night sky. Learn more about it in this video from Science.com, which is perfect for any budding astronomer.
