Busy Parent Briefing: Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s Estranged Wife Mary Has Died at 52 — What Happened?Sunny Chanel
Is it me or does it seem like the Kennedy family has had more than their fair share of tragedies? And it’s not just if you were born into this American royal family that makes one susceptible; even if you merely marry into the Kennedy clan, you put your life at risk. Okay, I may be going overboard, but the Kennedy family certainly is no stranger to premature deaths. The newest Kennedy to join the list of those who died too young? Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s estranged wife Mary Kennedy, who died at the age of 52. What happened?
To catch you up to speed, environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the son of Senator Robert F. Kennedy and the nephew of President John F. Kennedy (both men were assassinated back in the 1960s). Mary Kennedy (then Mary Richardson) was his second wife, with whom he had four children: Conor Richardson (b. 1994), Kyra LeMoyne (b. 1995), William Finbar (b. 1997), and Aiden Caohman Vieques (b. 2001).
Mary Kennedy was found at her home in Bedford, New York, just north of New York City. She allegedly had issues with drugs and alcohol; the Associated Press added that she “had two high-profile arrests around the time her husband filed for divorce in July 2010.” Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had reportedly tried to get Mary clean and sober, with a source telling RadarOnline, “Robert tried to help her all he could but it was difficult or him to be around her. Robert is committed to his sobriety but Mary had chosen a whole different path to take.”
Mary’s family released a statement saying, “We deeply regret the death of our beloved sister Mary, whose radiant and creative spirit will be sorely missed by those who loved her. Our heart goes out to her children who she loved without reservation. We have no further comment at this time.”
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been spending most of his time in Los Angeles and has been dating actress Cheryl Hines.
Our condolences go out to the Kennedy family, who have to endure yet another tragedy.
