Busy Parent Briefing: We Lost a Honky Tonk Angel — Country Star Kitty Wells Has Died

Kitty Wells

I love me some Kitty Wells. The country singer, noted to be the first big female country superstar, had a twang to her her voice, a cadence that was sweet as candy but as thick as molasses. Her voice could be both quirky and heartbreaking with a sound that was uniquely American and very much uniquely hers. She was an original and a great example of good, old fashioned country music. And this week we lost the most famous ‘Honey Tonk Angel’ of them all…

On Monday Kitty Wells passed away at the age of 92 from complications from a stroke. Kitty Wells made her mark back in 1952 when her hit “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” became a number one hit, the first by a female country solo star.

Our thoughts are with her friends, family and fans. And for your listening pleasure, here are a couple of Kitty Wells’s hits below.
