Busy Parents Briefing: NFL Great, Dad, and Youth Advocate Junior Seau Found Dead

Junior Seau

San Diego Chargers fans are in mourning today at the news of the death of NFL great Junior Seau. Their hometown hero, born and raised in San Diego, was a beloved member of the Chargers and the community at large. And on May 2, Seau was found dead at his Oceanside home of an apparent suicide, according to reports. What happened?

Father of four Junior Seau  was found by his girlfriend in his home. Seau had apparently shot himself in the chest but left no note explaining his actions.  “Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now. We ask everyone to stop what they’re doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family,” the team said in a statement.

Junior leaves behind a grieving family, his four kids, and his charitable organization, the Junior Seau Foundation. The charity’s mission is “to educate and empower young people through the support of child abuse prevention, drug and alcohol awareness, recreational opportunities, anti-juvenile delinquency efforts and complimentary educational programs.” The organization left a message on their Facebook page saying, “Junior Seau was a San Diego original. While he was most known as one of the best linebackers of all time, his passion on the football field was matched by his commitment to San Diego, and particularly it’s children. All of us at the Junior Seau Foundation are devastated by the loss of our founder, leader and friend.”

Our thoughts go out to Junior’s friends, family, and fans.
