Casey Anthony Verdict Not Guilty- You Can Be Sickened But Are You Really Surprised? (VIDEO)
You can be shocked. You can be sickened. You wring your hands and wail at the TV all day, but are you really, truly SURPRISED by the Casey Anthony verdict? If you followed the trial, you heard the lawyers, the pundits, the arm-chair quarterbacks dissecting the day-to-day information. You heard countless stories detailing Casey’s failings as a mother. You heard a whole bunch of ‘maybes’, but you simply didn’t hear JUST WHAT HAPPENED.
And, sadly, THAT is reasonable doubt. My video response after the jump:

I agree. I’m very conflicted about this verdict. I followed the case some and I feel that she is guilty (and a disgusting human being), but I’m not sure if I could have given a guilty verdict if I were on that jury. Beyond a shadow of a doubt is a serious statement. The physical evidence just wasn’t there. Had this been a case in the years before DNA evidence, she’d surely be convicted—but many people were convicted then on circumstantial evidence, and we’ve since learned that some of them were indeed innocent. I’m not saying she’s innocent, but I’m heartened to know that the jury took their job very seriously and that they wanted absolute proof before giving another person the death penalty.
Also, I’m predicting an offer from playboy in the next 24 hours.
Also, are you aware of how she paid for her defense? By selling her family photos and video to the press. So, if you’re unhappy with the verdict, maybe think about how your own consumption of this trial has lead to the outcome…
she should not be getting out of jail i thank that Casey and the family did it they are so sick. it makes me ill and upsets me that this happen to one of god angles.
I just want to say it doesnt matter what you and so many people “believe”. you do NOT know what happened.. so you should stop judging her.. seriously. just because someone says she is a “bad mother” you Do Not Know. You were not there, you did not see what happened.. nor did you even know her.. Why dont you take a look in the mirror before you call someone a bad mother. Seriously it is VERY SAD and VERY SICK that this poor little girl is dead, she should not be dead.. BUT that does not mean for you to go around passing judgement or accusing people when YOU do not know the facts.
oh and just to say: when I said “you” back there, I didn’t mean you, Danielle. But, you/anyone/us in general. And, thanks for not bringing up OJ…
How can you say you’re “shocked” in one breath and then say you’re “not surprised” in the next? Seems to me like a feeble attempt at riding the coat tails of this media frenzy…
and PS. I agree with with K ANNE “So, if you’re unhappy with the verdict, maybe think about how your own consumption of this trial has lead to the outcome”
I agree with you wholeheartedly, Danielle. You said it better than I could have and as sad and disappointing as this verdict is, our justice system did work, based on the evidence they had and the jobs the representatives did to prosecute/defend their clients. It seems unlikely that a mother would take that long to report her child missing, and yes clearly she is a horrible mother by any person’s standards. But without evidence to convict her in the killing, she can’t be convicted. That is the beauty and tragedy of our system and I, for one, don’t EVER want to be put on trial in any other country besides the United States.
but what you are leaving out is the fact that there is NO reasonable doubt that she was the SOLE adult in charge and responsible for that child in those 31 days and common sense tells you that people just DON’T ignore a missing child unless they are covering their asses! Common sense is not apparent in those jurors minds….they are idiots! Any person in their right mind knows it comes down to one thing — it doesn’t make sense that Casey Anthony had NOTHING to do with this murder and at the very least child abuse/endangerment charges — and NO ONE can ignore THAT common sense! She and OJ belong together forever — in HELL!
By the way, this is a nit-pick, but our justice system doesn’t specify that the criteria of a jury involves being sure “beyond a shadow of a doubt.” A shadow of a doubt would make finding any defendant guilty nearly impossible, given the variables present in every jury trial.
The language of the law specifies “beyond a REASONABLE doubt.” There is a difference and it’s important.
I think it’s horribly sad that this little girl is dead and no one will ever be held responsible for it. True, the defense won because the prosecution didn’t present the clear evidence that would prove who, what, when, where or why. But in my mind, this should have been a mistrial or there should have been a request fore more evidence. It seems to me ridiculous that she could get off the hook so easily …I wouldn’t have wanted to see her get the death penalty, but as her parents or whoever it was apparently said on CNN last week, she “isn’t not innocent.” 32 days to not report your child missing is, to me, suspicious and alarming. Whether she personally killed Caylee or not will maybe never be known … but a beautiful little girl is gone and this woman will walk free.
I just wish I had been quicker to turn down the radio volume before my carful of kids heard that a mother was accused of killing her 2-year-old child. That’s a concept they did not need to learn about at this point!
you are awesome you put all my thoughts I couldn’t verbalize into a clear understandable logically coherent manner and its true the jury is probably feeling like the better choice could not have been chosen because of blink fold on the outside evidence and stories she got a slap on the wrist and that’s sad but when she gets to those pearly gates the true verdict will be done
The verdict came about because the prosecution couldn’t prove murder. No definite cause of death, no definite time of death, no witnesses tying the death to Casey, no motive (e.g. she wanted to party) that was highly persuasive. She was a crappy mother. She may well have killed her child. But, what we believe personally makes no difference. I believed she was guilty but it was because I see her as a terrible mother and I consider not reporting the death to be highly suspicious. But I also know that the burden of proof is on the prosecution and they really never established beyond a reasonable doubt that Casey was any other than a bad mom that lied to the police. It’s the way the system is supposed to work even though we don’t believe the outcome is satisfactory.
I think it’s sad that she took law enforcement on a wild goose chase for so long, that when they finally found caylee there wasn’t enough left of her to prove that Casey did it. We all KNOW she did. If she didn’t she would not have been lying what would have been the point? In the end though she really will answer to God for her actions and that’s the important thing that justice will find her. Poor caylee it’s sad to see that casey could be so heartless, especially to her own flesh and blood. No natural affection really marks the time we are living in
Well said. A voice of reason I appreciate. It makes me incredibly sad to see people bashing the jury. They did their job and kept the system working, as much as we may not like the outcome. THIS is what protects the innocent, too!! That’s so important and we don’t want to lose it to a system that is given carte blanche to play with people’s lives – innocent or guilty.
I am sickened by the verdict, because as it was proven beyond a reasonable doubt, there is too much evidence against her to let her go free. If she did drown accidentally, why did they bury her with duct tape on her face and then lie? I just feel so sick that this poor innocent child go so horribly let down by her family. A mother and grandparents are meant to protect. What they did was wrong and it beyond unfortunate that she was found innocent.
She lied about so many things. Why does someone lie if they don’t have anything to hide? We may never know what really happened to that little girl. Casey may or may not have been the killer, but she sure knows more than she is telling.
* I meant to say “NOT proven beyond a reasonable doubt”
Those of you who are so emotioanlly involved in this need to step back and perhaps point your anger toward the prosecution. They are responsible for not proving their case.
defense said it was an accident cover up. please explain duct tape on the skull.
I JUST LOST MY BABY MAY 18TH SHE WAS LAID TO REST I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO HAVE HER BACK. ANYONE WHO WOULD KILL A CHILD IS A MONSTER. THIS IS SO VERY VERY SAD
i agree with you,,the media is so hollywood about these cases they lose focus on the real issues and having the casey anthony trial televised is also a problem no wonder the jury was so conflicked, all we can do now is pray for little caylee and know that casey will face the altimate judgement and pay for her sins,,now i feel bad and upset about cindy and george who have to live the rest of their life knowing that their own daughter took little caylee’s life,,unbelievable
EveryOne Lies.. plain and simple.. LYING DOES NOT MAKE YOU GUILTY OF MURDER! now that being said, it is a sad day that a poor girl is murdered, and no one is brought to justice,,,
I think this whole thing is a sad case of bad parenting and bad legal choices on the side of the prosecution. As I understand it, the problem is that the prosecution decided to go for a charge of first degree murder and they didn’t have the evidence to back it up. Had they gone for a lesser charge (second degree, manslaughter, I guess… I’m no legal expert and I haven’t been following the case that closely) they likely could have made it stick. I think she is a horrible person and likely responsible for the death of her child, but if I were sitting on the jury, knowing what little I know about this case, it seems to me that the prosecution came nowhere near meeing the bar of reasonable doubt on premeditated murder. (Contrary to public opinion, first degree is not a really awful, terrible murder, it is specifically murder with premeditated intent.) Let this be a lesson to prosecutors. They’re the ones who let Anthony off. If they wanted to convict, they should have chosen a charge they could prove.
the whole thing disgusts me.. that little girls blood is claiming for justice before the eyes of God.. how can a group of people sit in a room and conclude that the monster should go free, how could they not see the heartless reaction after her daughters disappearance and all the lies.. when a person is truly innocent they don’t lie the way she did.. Once again the American justice system at its worse but she will answer before a much bigger judge.. God
