America loves a murder mystery. They also like to get answers. And when the two of those collide – a murder mystery without answers –it gets us all in a tizzy. Throw in the senseless murder of a toddler and it goes from not just being tantalizing but to something tragic and terrible, yet a tale that becomes irresistible to the public. Case in point, the saga of Casey Anthony and the murder of her daughter Caylee.
Casey Anthony was acquitted of murder, but many believe that this does not prove innocence. Far from it. Countless armchair judges and juries as well as opinionated celebrities have issued their own guilty verdicts unto Casey Anthony. But will we ever know what really happened to Caylee?
In court, Casey Anthony’s team told the tale that Caylee was the victim of an accidental drowning, and Casey herself, a victim of abuse from her father. The story seemed far-fetched to most, especially when you throw in the evidence of chloroform and duck tape. Plus there was word that the story seemed eerily similar to an inmate at Casey’s jail. So most are not buying the drowning story. Then there is the idea that Casey had been using chloroform to put her daughter to sleep, and perhaps she gave Caylee too much, another accidental death theory. Or she may just of killed Caylee in more a cold blooded killer sort of way. But we do not know. And probably never will.
Casey Anthony can not be tried again for the crime, so there won’t be another trial. Casey could get a whole lot of money for a confession, but would that even be believable since she’s been sticking with this whole drowning story? And seeing that she seems to be a pathological liar, could any tale out of her mouth be believed? The only people who really know what happened to Caylee is Caylee and Casey. Caylee can’t speak for herself, so will we ever know what happened?
The answer is no. Yes, we love our answers but this mystery will probably stay unsolved.
