A Chicago news anchor caused terrible controversy this week when she blurted out on air, “Stop trying to convince your kids that Santa is Santa …. There is no Santa.” In a grandiose display of bad taste, Fox news anchor Robin Robinson continued to rant about precisely why parents should just come clean and tell their children at a very young age, “He’s not coming down the chimney, he’s not eating those cookies, he’s not bringing you anything.”
Robinson apologized to viewers the next day, saying, “So many kids don’t get to be children, that for those who do get to live the wonder and magic of Christmas, I would never spoil it intentionally. So I sincerely apologize.”
I must admit, as a single mother whose every dollar counts, I’ve considered telling my daughter exactly who buys her presents. But thankfully I’ve been able to restrain myself. And I have to say, knowing that her innocence is still intact at age 6 pleases me to no end. I got to chuckle at my daughter’s naivete the other day while we were walking by a jewelry store and she said, “I’d like some silver pearls for Christmas.” I told her, “Maybe Santa will bring you some.” She got excited and replied, “Ooh, that would be great because then we don’t have to spend any money!” Ha. Happy Holidays!
