Not only is Christina Aguilera one of the biggest pop stars of our time, she’s also a homegrown Steelers fan. Originally from outside of Pittsburgh, Aguilera must have been honored and nervous to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl tonight, because she flubbed the lyrics in the middle of her performance. In the second verse, she completely skipped “O’er the ramparts we watched.”
The lyrics to the national anthem are a bit flowery, but I think I’ve known them since I was a kid. We’ve got video of Aguilera’s performance and the proper lyrics below. Every American, young and old, should know them! Take a look:
The Star Spangled Banner
Oh, say, can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro’ the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets’ red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof thro’ the night that our flag was still there.
O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
