Last Minute Gift: Book Ideas for Nerdy Parents

FacebookTwitterGoogle+TumblrPinterest

If you’re in the market for some last-minute Christmas gift ideas and your special someone runs on the left-brain dominant side, here are some book ideas for you.

Ethan Gilsdorf put together a list of books for your most geeky friend or family member, and he’s talking the video game, dungeons and dragons, dice-rolling crowd. I’ve included his suggestions here and added my own — these are more for parents who like data, science and research about how their little ones grow.

If you’re hitting the book store for a mom or dad who fits either description, check these ideas out:

Here are the top 5 on Gilsdorf’s list:

1. My Best Friend Is a Wookiee: A Memoir, One Boy’s Journey to Find His Place in the Galaxy

2. Android Karenina

3. We, Robot: Skywalker’s Hand, Blade Runners, Iron Man, Slutbots, and How Fiction Became Fact

4. The Lord of the Rings Location Guidebook: Extended Edition

5. Extra Lives: Why Video Games Matter

I’m likely to try one of these for my husband this year. He also included Geek Dad, which we love.

And here are 3 of my favorite nerdy books for parents:

1. What’s Going on in There: How the brain and mind develop in the first five years of life.

2. The Philosophical Baby: What children’s minds tell us about truth, love, and the meaning of life.

3. NurtureShock: New thinking about children.
