How far would you travel for love? For one couple they are willing to travel the ocean. They are leaving Australia and heading for New Zealand, making the voyage together.
Emma Mansell and Sarah-Louise Hopkins, her fiancé, have wanted to get married; Emma wanting to marry her since they first met seven years ago. After learning that the New Zealand government legalized same sex marriage the two made the decision that they would “venture across the Tasman to say ‘I do’.”
The two hope to get married in a small chapel or in the mountains. For Mansell and Hopkins having their marriage legal is important as in their eyes they will be treated like other married couples. According to Mansell “Being the same is important.”
Their desire is to be more than just “partners.” They want to have what most couples want when they are planning to take that next step — a house, children, all things they describe as “the usual things.”
