Did you shop ’til your mouse broke online this Monday? If so, you were joined by record numbers of other shoppers. This year, Cyber Monday sales increased a whopping 33% over last year an entirely unexpected jump. Not only that, but the amount people spent also increased by nearly 3%. This tops sales on Black Friday, which only increased by 7% this year (but still not bad in this economy).
According to this press release from IBM, shopping peaked at 11:05am PST (2:05pm EST). Even more remarkable is this: Cyber Monday sales were 29% higher than Black Friday in-store sales. Last point of note is the fact that there was a 7% increase in sales via mobile devices over last year, with the iPad leading the way.
I asked some other mom bloggers about their Cyber Monday experience.
I always shop online either on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. I’d rather shop from home, research the sales in advance and shop through affiliate links to help out other bloggers. It’s easy to compare prices online by using Google Shopping. And I never buy anything unless I get free shipping. Connie of Brain Foggles
I took advantage of my doubled Ebates on Cyber Monday; it offset my costs buying eco-friendly and small biz. Robin of Simple Green Organic Happy.
I prefer to shop on Cyber Monday because I can shop from the safety of my own home and have the items delivered. I can also use ebates or Box Tops For Education to earn cash and points for my school. Gena of The Morris Bunch
I NEVER shop Black Friday because why suffer when I can do the same thing in my jammies while sipping my cocoa? I simply sit back, read a good ebook and wait for Monday to roll around! Kadi Prescott
Not every blogger I spoke with, however, was a Cyber Monday fan.
I was a Cyber Monday ‘looker.’ Nothing enticed me enough to make the jump. I do like to shop online, esp. if the shipping is free. But I do find site issues on days designated for such and appreciate when the ‘deals’ are extended for days to a week pre & post event. Rajean of Rajean Blomquist
I did browse during Cyber Monday but honestly I was disappointed in the deals that were offered. Also, I miss when it was just on Monday, it seems most online retailers have made a week out of it. Tina of Mad Hatter Mom
I shopped online on Black Friday as well, and for the most part, the best deals were Friday, aside from the stores like Sears.com who really saved the best of the best for Monday. Emily of Colorado Moms
What about you? Did you add to the Cyber Monday numbers?
