He and his piratey sidekicks are the reason we own an Admiral’s hat, sabre, long sword, eye patch, a vest that doesn’t go with anything, a handful of bandanas, and a full Captain Hook costume – complete with frilly lace cravat and buckled boot covers.
Plus a tutu, if you count the modifications my preschooler made to it in order to be a pirate princess for Halloween. And every Tuesday for several weeks afterward.
And, if your buccaneers are anything like mine, they’ll definitely be into celebrating Jake’s birthday by submitting videotaped birthday greetings to Disney Junior that may appear on air.
Mine emitted small squees that called dogs to the yard upon hearing the news.
It’s all part of “Jake’s Birthday Bash” leading up to the Mar. 1 debut of a new birthday-themed episode of Jake and the Never Land Pirates on the Disney Channel (8:30 a.m., ET/PT) and Disney Junior (5:30 p.m., ET/PT).
The episode will launch on iTunes in conjunction with the television premiere as part of the “Disney Junior Birthday Bash!” bundle that features birthday-themed episodes of additional faves like Doc McStuffins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
Starting Jan. 31, parents and their pirates can head to DisneyJunior.com/JakesBirthday to download a printable birthday card, pirate-themed recipes, crafts, party favors and a “Pin the Tail on the Croc” activity. All your kiddo needs to do is decorate the birthday card, then create a video showing it off while wishing Jake a happy birthday.
On Mar. 1, the site will launch an interactive treasure hunt game where kids can help Jake search Pirate Island for his hidden birthday presents.
All videos will be posted on DisneyJunior.com, and those chosen for air time will be on from Feb. 25-Mar. 1.
