Disneyland: Magical Memories to Make at the Resorts!

Mickey & Minnie Greet Guests

You cannot, and I repeat, cannot properly do Disneyland and California Adventure in one day. It’s just not possible. There is far too many awesome and amazing things to do and experience from riding Pirates of the Caribbean for the second time, to hanging out with Mater at the new Cars Land to chowing down on a massive Turkey Leg or a Pineapple Whip at the Enchanted Tiki Room.  That’s why we always stay at one of Disneyland’s resorts when we are there. And it’s not just for the convenience, it’s for the all the added magic that comes with a resort stay, memory makers that will last a lifetime and are very worthy for capturing on video. The resorts have become an attraction themselves, and here is why:

    The Newlly Remodeled Disneyland Hotel
The Disneyland Hotel opened on October 5th, 1955 and after 57 years, the resort was due for an update. The Disneyland Hotel has been revamped but in a perfectly old school day. The hotel pays homage to Disneyland's past from the giant original map of the Magic Kingdom to the concept art of classic rides sprinkled around the entire resort. It's a perfect mix of family luxury and paying tribute to the original classic hotel. A tip: video your kid's reactions when they enter the hotel lobby. They will have looks of awe on their faces, especially when they get a whiff of the cotton candy sent that floats through the lobby.
  • The Lobby 2 of 14
    The Lobby
One of my favorite things about not just the Disneyland Hotel but the Grand Californian is that they always keep their littlest guests needs in mind. While mom and dad go to the front desk to check in, the kids are invited to sit in little chair and watch classic Mickey Mouse cartoons a seamless transition from travel to the fun that is about to begin!
  • The Pool 3 of 14
    The Pool
The Disneyland Hotel has a stunning new pool with a very "E ticket" attraction, the monorail inspired water slide! Yes, it's totally awesome. In addition to this old-school stunner there is a very large family pool and a Minnie Mouse inspired hot tub. Each year we video tape our daughter splashing in the pool, it's so cute to watch how they (and their swimming skills) grow.
  • Adventure Land Tour 4 of 14
    Adventure Land Tour
The Adventure Land tower is one of the revamped area that has it's own stunning lobby that pays tribute to Adventure Land's classic rides like The Jungle Cruise. It's beautifully executed and a perfect place to call home while you are there.
  • Disneyland Hotel Rooms 5 of 14
    Disneyland Hotel Rooms
That Disney magic is also, of course, sprinkled liberally into the rooms of the Disneyland Hotel. One thing my daughter loved to play with (and even video taped) was the epically cool castle headboard behind the beds. At the press of a button, music plays and the fireworks light up, and it's as charming the first to the 100th time.
  • Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar 6 of 14
    Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar
While you may assume all the magic is aimed at just the kids, you'd be wrong. Trader Sam's is a must go to destination for the adult set, and the kids before night falls. Trader Sam's is traditionally decorated like a mid-century tiki bar at the Disneyland Hotel doesn't just serve up delicious snacks and awesome cocktails but it serves up hilarious fun. When one orders certain drinks from the bar like the Shipwreck on the Rocks or the Uh Oa! and you'll be surprised by some stellar special effects. Plus makes sure to keep your eyes on the Tiki columns, they'll be watching you!
  • Fireworks 7 of 14
    Fireworks
If you're lucky enough, you can get a room at the Disneyland Hotel that will give you a fantastic view of the nightly fireworks. A fantastic viewpoint to capture the display on video.
  • Grand Californian Resort 8 of 14
    Grand Californian Resort
My daughter recently said this of the Grand Californian Resort, "I love it there because it feels like coming home." She's stayed there several times and really feels comfortable there, not just for the amenities but also because of the cozy, soulful nature of the place. It has a welcoming and warm feeling that is a perfect backdrop of family memory making. You'll see oodles of families walking around the resort video taping just the resort itself because it is so gorgeous.
  • Grand Californian Special California Adventure Entrance 9 of 14
Grand Californian Special California Adventure Entrance
One of the big perks of staying at the Grand California resort is that you have special access to a hotel guests only entrance to the park.
  • Grand Californian Pool 10 of 14
    Grand Californian Pool
The Grand Californian pool is surrounded by trees that makes you feel far from the action that is the Magic Kingdom. And the waterslide is a big hit with the kids of course!
  • Grand Californian 11 of 14
    Grand Californian
The wilderness theme continues in the rooms of the hotel with wood accents and Stickley inspired furniture that makes you forget that you're in the middle of Anaheim! Plus the rooms are a great place to relax and watch the videos you shot during the day.
  • Storytellers Cafe 12 of 14
    Storytellers Cafe
The Grand Californian's Storyteller Cafe is a must when staying at the resort. Their lunch and dinner options are all delicious, but the big fun is at the character breakfasts where all Disney's furry friends will meet and greet your family.
  • Extras! 13 of 14
    Extras!
There are a whole slew of extra activities for hotel guests of all ages. You can participate in their "Get Up & Go Power Walk," go on a scavenger hunt, or enjoy a "Magical Night at the Movies," where you can watch Disney blockbusters outside under the stars in their outdoor theater. Each day has new activities and you'll get a schedule of the "Magical Hotel Adventures" at check-in.
  • Magic Mornings 14 of 14
    Magic Mornings
One of the best, most magical things about staying at the resorts is the Magic Mornings where on select days you can get into the parks an hour early. And that extra hour is amazing, you can get all those "E ticket" rides out of the way early and just enjoy the rest of your day at a leisurely pace. One of our favorite videos from Disneyland is of my daughter skipping down an almost empty Main Street, a rarity for sure!
