If you thought Patti LaBelle’s hair circa 1982 was the scariest thing about her, think again.
If only Lady Marmalade had lived up to the sweetness of the name of one of her most famous songs, perhaps she wouldn’t be the target of a lawsuit brought about by a family in New York.
Apparently the “Voice Inside My Heart” singer has a different voice outside of her heart, having allegedly freaked out on a toddler so badly that the 18-month-old has suffered “personality changes, sleep disorder” and “increased fear of strangers,” according to the New York Post.
Genevieve Monk and her parents were walking out of their apartment building on the West Side of Manhattan last November when her dad put her down near the door of the lobby.
LaBelle went up to Genevieve’s pregnant mom, Roseanna, and asked, “Do you know what your daughter is doing?”
Roseanna went to pick her up when Labelle allegedly got aggressive and scolded her for leaving her daughter unattended by the door.
Monk says the “Unpredictable” songstress started hurling profanities at her and “flick[ed] water from the bottle” at her as well.
When Genevieve became hysterical and Roseanna picked her up to console her and then chided LaBelle for upsetting her daughter, LaBelle lunged at Roseanna while the baby was still in her arms and “had to be restrained by her entourage.”
Genevieve vomited from crying so hard.
The Monk family later asked LaBelle in a note for an apology letter, which they never received. They are now seeking unspecified damages, which, if they receive any, will be donated to a children’s cancer charity.
What’s your take? Did Patti LaBelle Sell Her Heart to the Junkman? Does she need a New Attitude? Does she need to say the Lord’s Prayer over this one? Were her actions Not Right But Real? Did she Stir It Up unnecessarily? Or did Genevieve’s parents really deserve a lashing for leaving their toddler On [Her] Own?
