Mary Blair is the artist celebrated in today’s Google Doodle, known best for her contributions to Walt Disney’s Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. I spoke to Mary’s niece Jeanne Chamberlain last night, and she told me she was very excited for her beloved aunt’s centennial to be celebrated in such a special way. Blair’s work has been exhibited all over the globe, from the 1964 World’s Fair to The Colors of Mary Blair exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo, July 2009.
Blair has been described as “a dazzling and prolific sorceress of color and form,” and her beautiful renderings from Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland (below) certainly attest to that:
