Facebook Lets Users Edit Comments

Still obsessing over that awkward, indelicately worded comment you posted on Facebook months ago? Good news! You can go back and polish it to make yourself sound more insightful and intelligent.

Seriously, Facebook recently told Mashable that users now have the ability to edit old comments on Facebook. No doubt Facebook was inspired, at least in part, by Google +, which has always allowed people to edit their old comments.

You might remember that Facebook rolled out a similar feature back in April 2011 that allowed users to edit comments. But that only worked within a few seconds of posting a reply. Now you can go back and edit comments no matter how long ago you posted them. Unfortunately, you still can’t edit old posts — just the comments on them.

Just in case you’re worried that you responded to a post that has since been edited, no worries. Facebook told Mashable that they will be  “showing the editing history for a comment so that subsequent commenters or likers have the full context of the conversation.” Phew.

Apparently, Facebook enabled editing on Thursday evening and will be gradually introducing it to all users in the next few days. I just checked and (woo hoo!) I’m able to edit my Facebook comments. Now if only you could edit other people’s comments!
