Father of Missing Two-Year-Old Sky Metalwala Believes Mom Is Involved

Strollerderby reported yesterday on the case of Sky Metalwala, a 2-year-old from Bellevue, Washington, who disappeared from his mother’s car when she left him alone to buy gas. Sadly, this story may be taking an even more ominous turn.

Julia Biryukova left Sky in her unlocked car, walking with her other child one mile to a gas station after she says the car ran out of gas. She told police that when she returned an hour later Sky was gone. Yet her husband, Solomon Metalwala, isn’t buying it.

In an interview with KCPQ-TV, Metalwala said Julia is playing “some kind of game” with regard to her son’s disappearance, and he wonders whether she has something to do with it. He explained that she has mental health problems and alleges that she has even had dreams of killing her children.

Reports also have surfaced, though, that Biryukova has accused Metalwala of domestic violence in the past and has had a previous restraining order against him. Metalwala has already taken a lie detector test in the case. His lawyer says the results were inconclusive but blames that on lack of sleep since Metalwala’s son went missing Sunday. He says that Metalwala has agreed to take another test.

In another disturbing development, Seattle’s KOMO-TV reports, “… that no gas can was found near the car despite the mother’s account that she went to get gas after the car ran out of fuel. The car also started for police.”

I don’t know about you, but there’s no way I would have taken one child with me and left the other alone to trek a mile to buy gas. Not a chance. Regardless of whether either parent is involved in Sky’s disappearance, that’s just such a scary and neglectful thing to do, and it appears both parents knew better as they had been cited before for leaving a child unattended in a car.
