There is plenty of bad news out there, so it’s nice when we get a little good news. And as parents we spend far too much time telling our kids what’s not good for them that we come down with severe “It’s bad for you!” fatigue. But it turns out that 2011 was chalk full of studies of what was previously considered “bad” things that turn out to be actually “good” things. 1. Red Wine
We’re heard this for a while now but the newest tidbit it that the resveratrol in red wine may actually prevent the further growth of breast cancer cells. So drink up! (In moderation of course).
It’s common knowledge that chocolate is good for you, and this gives us all a great excuse to indulge. But this year a new aspect of the benefits of chocolate was discovered. If you eat about two candy bars of chocolate a week you can lower your risk of stroke by 20 percent.
Many see fidgeting as just some anxious nervous behavior but it turns out, according to new studies, that it may boost your “cardiorespiratory fitness.”
Most would see no positive in a having a fever, especially when our kids have one, but researchers are finding that having a fever may be beneficial in that is increases our immune system’s defense and in turn will work harder (and better) at fighting off illnesses.
Now you wouldn’t want your kids practicing this one yet, but apparently swearing for those who don’t do it very often can assist in your response to pain. Those who swear like a sailor? It’s just part of the vernacular and they don’t benefit from yelling out curse words.
