Google Offers Moms More With New Coupon SiteDanielle Sullivan
The word on the street or on the World Wide Web, is that Google is preparing to launch a coupon service online that will get consumers the best deals on a number of products and services, called Google Offers. Its direct competition will obviously be the extremely popular social buying site, Groupon, which Google recently tried to take over.
I think they’re on the right track. In this economy, moms aren’t just looking for the best deals on everything from clothing to restaurants, we need them. It is more expensive to raise a family than ever and every little bit helps. When I was a child, my mother cut coupons and I would help her organize them. Each product had a category: beverages, pet food, snacks, cleaning supplies, etc… We’d place them in white envelopes and when Saturday shopping rolled around, we’d pull out our envelopes and load up on the discounts. Double coupon day was a big household event that took preparation.
Today, I admit I use coupons sparingly, not because I don’t want to, but because I never seem to have the time to do all the preparation it involves. The most I do now is make sure I have all the discount cards ready to go: B&N, Duane Reade, and Key Food. The cards make it easy. What’s even better is to keep the miniature key ring cards on your keychain and then you’ll never be caught unprepared on a spur of the moment trip. There are some places, like Walgreens that still require customers to clip out the weekly coupons and I rarely ever get to that either.
I would love to be that woman we’ve all seen on TV at one time or another that buys a cartful of items adding up to $146 which after using coupons comes out to three cents, but I’m not inclined to devote the time into it. However, online offers might get me back into the coupon business. It’s just quicker and easier online (magic words to busy moms and dads).
One thing about Google Offers that will attract users right off the bat that will draw users — the name. We trust Google. If I had a choice between a moderately known company and Google, nine times out of ten, I’m picking Google.
I never used Groupon, but I think I just might check out Google Offers.
