Have You Joined The Mom Pledge?

Writer, friend, and all around badass Elizabeth Flora Ross of The Writer Revived is on a mission, a mission of respect within the blogosphere.

While we’ve all fallen victim to online bullying, Elizabeth decided to take action by launching The Mom Pledge, an online movement to respect our fellow mother and her individual choices.

Elizabeth states, “I really felt The Mom Pledge would resonate with other women. I knew I couldn’t be alone in the way I was feeling about all the ugliness. What I didn’t realize was how widespread and serious the problem of cyberbullying between moms really is. I’ve been quite shocked by what I have learned and been exposed to since, but it has reinforced the need for our movement. And I regularly receive emails from women telling me The Mom Pledge has positively impacted their lives, which brings tears to my eyes.”

While The Mom Pledge originally launched in support of mom bloggers, the pledge had evolved to include all mothers who spend time online.

Elizabeth’s mission is simple, “My goal is to create an environment of respect, understanding and acceptance. Where women feel safe discussing important issues. There are so many things we should be able to talk about. But somehow, we seem to have lost the ability explore our differences in a civil manner…I believe what we should be doing is celebrating the joys of motherhood together and supporting one another through the challenges. The internet offers an unprecedented opportunity to do just that.”

Indeed. I joined The Mom Pledge at its launch because I believed in its principles and the collective power of our mutual respect. Won’t you join me in taking the pledge?

The Mom Pledge

I am a proud to be a mom. I will conduct myself with integrity in all my online activities. I can lead by example.

I pledge to treat my fellow moms with respect. I will acknowledge that there is no one, “right” way to be a good mom. Each woman makes the choices best for her family.

I believe a healthy dialogue on important issues is a good thing. I will welcome differing opinions when offered in a respectful, non-judgmental manner. And will treat those who do so in kind.

I stand up against cyber bullying. My online space reflects who I am and what I believe in. I will not tolerate comments that are defamatory, hateful or threatening.

I refuse to give those who attack a platform. I will remove their remarks with no mention or response. I can take control.

I want to see moms work together to build one another up, not tear each other down. Words can be used as weapons. I will not engage in that behavior.

I affirm that we are a community. As a member, I will strive to foster goodwill among moms. Together, we can make a difference.
