In an effort to curb sexually transmitted diseases and pregnancy, one Brooklyn high school is intent on doing what is necessary, they say.
So on prom night at Bedford-Stuyvesant Preparatory High School, there will be free condoms available for its students. Incidentally, this is in stark contrast to many other high schools. Just last week, we covered the other side of the spectrum, so to speak, in which prom moms sprayed Lysol on teens who they thought were dirty dancing.
The NY Daily News reports that a safe-sex assembly will be held at Bedford-Stuyvesant Preparatory before the prom to before to distribute the condoms, which will be provided by NY Healthcare.
Darryl Rascoe, the principal of the school said it is a necessity:
“There are several kids in our school who already have children. We’re fooling ourselves if we think we can leave this up to teams to be proactive. This is necessary. It’s practical and it’s the right thing to do.”
The prom is set to be held on June 7th.
Would you object if free condoms were handed out at your child’s prom?
