Has your television been permanently tuned into NBC since Friday night? Unfortunately for me, I am the only member of our household who has any interest in watching the Olympics. I’ve been commandeering the remote control all weekend. Sorry, Dora and co. You can resume your exploring in a few days.
I am missing more sporting events than I’m catching, but my favorite moment of the games so far doesn’t even involve an athlete. It involves their parents.
You have to watch this video of U.S. gymnast Aly Raisman’s parents, Lynn and Rick, reacting to her uneven bar routine last night during team qualifiers. They lean, they cringe, they mumble ‘Stick it!’ under their breath. At one point Raisman’s dad performs what appears to be a rather impressive hip swivel. It’s pretty apparent that they’ve watched her perform this routine so many times they have memorized it as well as their daughter.
