Are you an adrenaline junkie? Have one in your family? How would you feel about letting them ride a winged roller coaster that apparently cut off the arms and legs of crash test dummies during test runs.
Not only that, but a team of British fighter pilots were brought in to test the new roller coaster as it neared completion and many of them described the ride as “gut-wrenching”.
If that makes the Swarm even more appealing to you you’ll have to travel to London to ride it. As Yahoo reports, Thorpe Park in London is set to debut the Swarm. The coaster is described as “flight through apocalyptic devastation on Europe’s tallest winged rollercoaster”. Up to 28 people will rocket through the air at 62 miles an hour, including an upside down 127 foot drop and several close encounters with walls designed to make those who brave the coaster feel like they’re about to crash.
Mark Cutmore, team leader of the Blades, a stunt pilot organization, says “I am a self-confessed adrenaline junkie, but even as a pilot used to G-force there were some gut-wrenching moments, and I have to admit the near miss element is eye-watering — you really do feel as if you are going to crash into the structures.”
You can experience the Swarm in the simulation below. What do you think? Fun for the whole family or to be avoided at all costs? Do amusement park rides in general make you nervous, what with all the malfunctions and accidents that are reported in the news?
