Why Dark Chocolate is a Health Food (and How To Eat It Right)

There is a box in my kitchen cupboard that holds my “medicine.” If I’m feeling a little off, a little frazzled, or a little impatient, sometimes I’ll pull the box down and sneak a “dose”: a square or two of dark chocolate. Usually, one dose will do the job. I’ll relax, collect my wits, and be able to think more clearly as I go through my day.

Some days, however, I find myself going back to the box a couple of times. Maybe I am more tired than usual, or the kids are all demanding my attention at once, or I’m simply unable to focus. There was a time when I might feel a little guilty about this habit, but more and more I’m finding that dark chocolate, which is rich in flavonoids, has plenty to recommend it as a health food.
