Iceland Volcano Erupts! But Don't Worry Kids... It Ain't the Rapture

Volcano

On May 21st, 2011 – aka Doomsday to some – a volcano erupted in Iceland. Now, Harold Camping and his followers may get all stoked thinking this is beginning of the rapture and that they can now finally be whisked off to heaven while the rest of us are tortured for the next five months. But the folks at Family Radio shouldn’t be getting ready to levitate just yet, there is one thing about the volcano that erupted…

it’s super active  and erupted before and will again plus there are about 130 yes 130 volcanic mountains in Iceland. ABC news says that the “Grimsvotn volcano, under the Vatnajokull glacier in south-east Iceland, has thrown a plume of white smoke about 15 kilometres into the air” and it just happens to be Iceland’s most active volcano. It had it’s last great big explosion back in 2004. It ain’t some new “end of times” disaster.

So if you were worried for your family’s safety, worried that you should have spent the last 24 hours, 24 days or 24 years praying…don’t be.  It’s just an interesting and odd coincidence. But one wonders how parents, who are believers, will handle the news of the volcano. Will they sell it as “awesome news!” a volcano exploded! Or “we were sooooo close!” or just see it as what it is, a coincidence.
