It's National Doughnut Day! Where to Get Your Free Doughnuts

If it's free, it also means there's no calories involved, right?

In what is obviously the most important news of the day, today is National Doughnut Day, which is sort of a high holy day in my house. The, um, “holiday” was created by was started by the Salvation Army in 1938 to commemorate the “doughnut lassies,” volunteers who passed out doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines in World War I. Where can you score a free doughnut today?

Easily the best deal is at Krispy  Kreme; according to its National Doughnut Day event page on Facebook, people can get one free doughnut of any kind at participating stores, no purchase necessary.

Midwestern chain LaMar’s Donuts is also offering one freebie per customer, no strings attached.

Canadian chain Tim Horton’s is offering a coupon on its Facebook page for a free doughnut with any purchase at its U.S. locations. That one requires a little more work; you have to “like” them on Facebook, print the coupon, and bring it into a store. I guess its Canadian customers are out of luck.

At Dunkin’ Donuts, you get a free doughnut with the purchase of any beverage (including their prepackaged ones), at participating stores and while supplies last.

But it’s not all about the delicious, delicious doughy goodness. Entenmann’s will donate $1 for every Facebook “like” to the Salvation Army, up to $25,000. And in Cincinatti, National Doughnut Day includes events that will benefit the Salvation Army.

TIm Horton’s is offering free donuts to Americans but not Canadians?! LOL.

There is something so wrong about that – Canada has more doughnut shops, per capita, than any other country.

I think this sounds like more fun than last Friday’s Missing Children’s celebration, which turned out to be kind of a downer.
