"I've Done Children With Guns! And It Won Everything!" Dance Moms Coach Defends Decision to Use Prop Guns (Video)

By Monica Bielanko |

"Armed and dangerous" as dance coach Abby Lee Miller says.

“I’ve done ‘Children With Guns!’ And it won everything! It was a piece of brilliant work.”

First, let me make it abundantly clear that someone could accidentally fire a real gun in the general direction of Abby Lee Miller, star of Dance Moms on Lifetime and I wouldn’t really break a sweat calling 9-1-1 if she should happen to get struck by a bullet or two. But that’s beside the point.

The loudmouthed dance teacher is at it again, sparking her special brand of scripted controversy on the “reality” show.

As HuffPost TV reports, Abby Lee Miller says guns are a big win when it comes to dance competitions.

The girls’ mothers were uncomfortable with the gigantic gun props Miller gave their girls to use and dared question Miller about her decision.

The mom asks, “The caliber (such clever script writing!) of the (dance) piece, it doesn’t seem as high as what you normally put out there for the girls. The guns … as moms it’s throwing us off a bit. It seems a bit aggressive.”

How dare this silly non-dance teaching mom diss Miller’s craft?

Miller wasn’t having it, of course.

As HuffPo notes, “she then went on to explain that lots of musicals use guns as props, like “Chicago,” for example. The fact that “Chicago” features adults, not little girls, packing heat seemed to escape her.”

Miller explains how she wants her girls entering their upcoming Pittsburgh competition “armed and dangerous.”

You can see the drama unfold in the clip below.

Abby Miller and her “reality” show aside, would it bother you if you child was given a prop gun to use as part of a performance? Why or why not?

The mothers are every bit as horrible as Miller herself, so I don’t give them much credit for suddenly noticing when Miller does something that might be offensive. I feel so bad for those girls because between Miller and their narcissistic mothers who live vicariously through their daughters, those girls don’t have much in the way of role models.

I think the mothers are worse than Miller.. except maybe Nia and Maddie’s mothers.

  3. Linda, T.O.O. says:

I think the show is (very obviously) scripted, so you might as well treat it like the fiction it is.

There goes Abby pushing the limits again.
I thought dance teachers were supposed to be role models? …. and the parents? 25 years of dance has taught me that this is not a real dance teacher and now being a dance teacher myself, I could never take seeing parenting at its worst.
