Jared Lee Loughner, 22, in Custody After Arizona ShootingMadeline Holler
A 22-year-old Arizona man has been taken in to custody following a deadly shooting at an Arizona supermarket that killed federal judge John Roll, a nine-year-old girl and four other. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was rushed in to surgery after she was shot in the head at near point-blank range.
Jared Lee Loughner was tackled by an aide to Giffords after he had gotten off some 20 rounds, witnesses say. He has not yet been charged.
The Huffington Post reports that witnesses described Loughner as a white male, clean-shaven but “fringe” looking.
According to some Fox News reports, Loughner is a veteran of the war in Afghanistan.
The HuffPo also copies text from a MySpace page, allegedly of Loughner’s. The page has been taken down. But it listed, among other things, one of his favorite books as Mein Kampf. He also listed some classics philosophical texts, like the Meno and The Republic.
His favorite activity was listed as conscience dreaming, which is also known as lucid dreaming, wherein the dreamer is aware he or she is in a dream and acts to control his or her role. Loughner was also reportedly concerned that the government was involved with brainwashing its citizens.
He once volunteered at a book festival in Arizona and was photographed there.
