We’ve heard a ton about teen shaming, particularly in the past year’s worth of parenting news, but what about adult shaming by law?
A Cleveland, Ohio judge ordered a woman to wear an idiot sign as the result of a moving violation.
Shena Hardin was driving in back of a school bus and rather than stop each time the bus dropped off children, she drove up on the sidewalk to get around the vehicle. When bus driver Uriah Herron noticed Hardin doing this on more than one occasion, he videotaped the woman’s driving and tipped off the police.
In addition to losing her license for 30 days and having to pay a $250 fine, Hardin will also have to wear a sign next Tuesday and Wednesday, that says, “Only an idiot drives on the sidewalk to avoid a school bus.”
While, I agree that what she did was not only selfish, but foolish, I’m not sure public shaming is an effective tool for an adult.
What do you think? Is that an effective use of law? Do you think she’ll ever drive on the sidewalk again?
