Kevin and Marina Krim Issue Statement as Lulu and Leo Are Mourned at Memorial ServiceMonica Bielanko
Family and friends gathered to remember little Lucia and Leo Krim at a memorial service yesterday in New York City.
Lucia, 6 and Leo, 2, were allegedly killed by their nanny in their Upper West Side apartment and found by their mother on October 25th. It’s a story that has shocked and saddened people across the country and the world.
As PEOPLE reports, at the memorial their father, Kevin Krim, remembered all the happy times he and his wife, Marina, spent with their kids “breaking down into tears only when pondering the “meaningless, violent crime” that took their lives.”
The children’s music teacher also played some of their favorite songs at the service. You can see a video of his performance here.
Just before the memorial Kevin and Marina Krim issued a statement thanking everyone for their support and announcing the creation of the Lulu & Leo Fund. As reported on a Tumblr blog created by the Krim family to issue the statement, “The Fund will support participatory art and science education for young children in schools, museums, and other community institutions. Lulu’s art classes provided some of her most joyful and enriching moments. We’d like to help other children obtain access to similarly great experiences.”
In the statement, the Krims say they miss their children terribly.
We want to thank you for your extraordinary outpouring of love and kindness. Lulu and Leo were 2 of our 3 best friends, and we miss them so much. Our daughter Nessie is very strong, and with your support we will be strong for her.
Today we gathered family and friends to celebrate the beautiful lives of Lulu and Leo. It is important to us that they are remembered as the sweet, creative, and fun-loving children that they were…
…As we go forward, we are focused on our 3-year-old daughter, Nessie. It is of the utmost importance to us that she is afforded the opportunity to grow up privately, like any other kid. We ask for your support in ensuring that we achieve this goal for our daughter.

The Krims have been in seclusion with daughter Nessie since the murders.
The children’s nanny, Yoselyn Ortega, who is still in the hospital as a result of stabbing herself, has been charged with stabbing the two children to death. As the Daily News reports, Ortega, 50, gave an account of what took place the night she committed the murders. She reportedly told police Lucia fought back when she was attacked and Leo was sleeping. Ortega said she had money problems and apparently wanted to be paid more.
