A 6-year-old Michigan boy learned the power of a gesture after getting suspended for curling his hand into the shape of a gun.
According the Mason Jammer’s mom, Erin, the boy was just playing around. Officials from Jefferson Elementary School claim the boy’s actions made other students uncomfortable and so suspended the boy for the remainder of the week.
“I do think it’s harsh for a six-year-old. He’s six and he just likes to play. Maybe what you could do is take his recess away. He’s only six and he doesn’t understand any of this,” Erin Jammer said.
Officials say Mason had been making the gesture for months despite repeated requests for him to stop. Erin Jammer says her son is not violent and doesn’t own toy guns at home.
Fitting punishment or overreaction?
