Kids Comics This Week - Super Hero Squad The SeriesBrett Singer
Marvel Adventures Super Heroes #15
Marvel Super Hero Squad #1: Marvel is going all-in with this one. What began as a throwaway online comic has morphed into a video game (October 2009), TV series (9/19 on Cartoon Network), and of course a regular monthly comic book. My son read this issue and pronounced it “hilarious.” No crossover appeal here, which is fine, but don’t expect to be borrowing this title from your young’uns.
Disney Pixars Finding Nemo Reef Rescue #3: This appears to be turning into a pro-environmental message comic, which is fine with me. Great art and decent writing. Both of my boys love it.
Muppet Robin Hood #4
Archie & Friends #135
Archie Digest #257
Sonic The Hedgehog Vol 2 #204
Cartoon Network Action Pack #41
Ben 10 Alien Force Bens Knightmare Story Book TP
Grown-Ups Are Dumb! (No Offense): not a comic book but I may have to buy it for my kid based solely on the title.
Weird toy: Uni-Formz Superman Classic Superman Figure
I don’t know what to make of this. Priced at more than $50, it’s clearly targeted at the collectible market. The 8″ tall figure is described thusly: “Contemporary toy designer Monster 5 recreates Superman with a stylized urban vinyl design.”
Personally I think it looks more like Bizarro Superman. Also available in “Cyborg and Kryptonian Life-Suit styles.” Just like Barbie! (Not.)
And now a few grown-up titles:
Star Trek Nero #2: limited series that gives us some background on the villian from the recent (awesome) “Star Trek” movie. I’ve been reading this one and so far so good. Also recommended for Trek fans is Star Trek: Countdown (Movie Prequel), which is good enough that they could make a short film and it would be, dare I say, awesome.
Fall Out Toy Works #1 Signed By Joe Trohman & Andy Hurley, $3.99: This is selling for cover price, which is either a bargain or over-priced. Read more about it here.
Political Power #2 Barack Obama and Biographical Novel Che Guevara TP: Buy ’em both for the socialist in your life!
V The Original Miniseries Novelization: Remember “V”? Great TV miniseries in 1980’s. It’s coming back so I guess this is supposed to get us excited. Meh.
A couple of great titles: Worst Song Played On Ugliest Guitar and Full Frontal Nerdity Vol 2 Youve Got The Touch Youve Got The Powaaahh
