Kristi Noem

Kristi Noem and family

Don’t know who Kristi Noem is? That will soon change.

Dubbed “the next Sarah Palin,” the telegenic mom of three is  hoping to take over Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin’s seat in the House of Representatives.

Noem has raised more money than any other House challenger this quarter, according to The Washington Post.

The $1.1 million she has raised “should go a long way in media-poor South Dakota, where ad buys cost a lot less than they do in bigger markets,” writes  my colleague at Famecrawler.

The Tea Party candidate is as all-American as they come. She runs a ranch, rides horses, hunts elk and even skins pheasants, according to the Washington Post. Along with her handsome husband, Bryon, Noem is raising her two teenage daughters, Kassidy and Kennedy, and a son, Booker.

So what’s her platform? Not surprisingly, Noem is anti-government spending and wants to repeal the new health care law.

On her Facebook page, Noem describes herself as a “wife, mother, farmer, rancher, small business owner, and South Dakotan.”

Will she soon add Congresswoman to her bio?

  1. Mistress_Scorpio says:

Can anyone who is not white be described as “All-American?” Just wondering.

  2. paulabernstein says:

Great question, Mistress_Scorpio. I would say definitely yes. For me, the all-American comment came from the fact that she’s a rancher and skins her own pheasants! But then, I’m Jewish and of Eastern European descent, so that seems really foreign to me!

  3. Gretchen Powers says:

“All-American” in the sense that most people mean it=cheesy and is a turn off to me, personally…just like this woman.

  4. K. says:

I just barfed a bit in my mouth. We don’t need another Sarah Palin wannabe. Also, I wonder why she named her daughter Kennedy…

  5. NMNY says:

I may be forced to return home. My people need me.

  6. bob says:

I thought Christine O’Donnell was the next Sarah Palin. Exactly how many clueless, folksy, pretty female grifters do we need, anyway?

  7. Chris says:

They say that living in a place with a low population count means you don’t need government intervention to referee human relations. She just doesn’t get that shooting her rifle wouldn’t fly if she had a backyard in Park Slope. Us crowded urban folk need some management, and I guess it’s the government that does it for us.

  8. Mr.E Mark says:

she sounds good to me. not another career politician that is only interested in lining their own pockets and maintaining control with no regard for the constitution or the people they represent. look around people the average american is sick of politics as usual. how else do you explain the popularity of the tea party. wait a few weeks and see if i am wrong

  9. JEssica says:

She is from South Dakota, she has no chance of winning. The money raising is just to buy votes in congress later.

  10. michelle says:

Um, JEssica, you do know she is running to be a Congresswoman *from* South Dakota, right? Just wondering if you knew anything about the American system of government.

  11. michelle says:

Whatever. If you ask these people what exactly in government they would cut to make it “smaller,” they either don’t know, or have to admit that they want to cut Medicare/Social Security (because all those old people should just be self-reliant and go out and ranch for a living like she does). They never, ever say they would cut military spending, even on things that have no return on investment. They are really only interested in destroying jobs.

  12. Huh? says:

Oh joy. Let’s go check out her platform. BRB with (assumed) anti-woman/LGBT/compassion and pro-business/war/corporation info.

  13. Huh? says:

….well. She’s predictable. Pro-Life, anti gov’t/spending (except, of course for medicare, SS, and defense)etc. etc. Nothing concrete, nothing shocking. I do have to say though, that I just love the order in which she has her issues organized- it really underscores the oddity of being for *some* social programs and against others….medicare is fine! Socialized medicine is evil! You don’t want to be a communist, do you?
