Kung Fu Panda 2 Writers Plan Candyland Kids Movies

Can't make it through the game, could I possibly make it through the movie?

I’m going to see if I can get through this post without falling asleep. It’s a post about the children’s board game, Candyland, and I … I … zzzzzzz.

Uhh, Candyland.

Okay, the writers of Kung Fu Panda 2, Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger told Entertainment Weekly at the Kung Fu Panda premiere that they want to write a movie based on Candyland. They don’t think it will be boring because, well, they don’t say why but it surely must be because they’ve never played the game that requires no strategy (unless you count finding ways to get out of playing a full round of this game that feels endless).

Here’s what Berger invisions:

“We don’t see it as a movie based on a board game, although it has characters from that world and takes the idea of people finding themselves in a world that happens to be made entirely of candy where there are huge battles going on,” Berger says. “We are going for real comedy, real action, and real emotions at stake.”

The two want a movie of Candyland to be more Lord of the Rings like, which is a great goal because the board game should be more Lord of the Rings like — or more like anything other than what it is.

Except Chutes and Ladders, which is also like putting one’s brain on ice for an indefinite period.

Then, their next cinematic gem will be an adaptation of “Go Fish.” Here’s the plot. It’s from the Wikipedia entry on “Go Fish” because why change a thing?

“The player whose turn it is to play asks another player for his cards of a particular rank. For example, “Steve, do you have any threes?” Players cannot ask for a card they are not holding. The recipient of the request must then hand over all cards of that rank, if he has any.”

It’s going to star Bradley Cooper as Steve and Katherine Heigl as his “opponent.” It’s going to be awesome. I can’t wait to see what color she dyes her hair for the movie!

The only way to make Candyland exciting is to add real candy. Or alcohol, but then you wouldn’t be playing with kids, wohld you?

  3. Hahahahaha, MS and K. I thought I was the only one.

OK, movies based on video games are notoriously BAD. How seriously horrid will be a movie based on one of the most tedious board game (“bored” game?) know to humanity?
On another note, I’m sorry, but “Candyland” just sounds like a porn title.
