Laughing Baby Video: Who Needs Toys?

Laughing baby, baby, babies, micah McArthur, Marcus McArthur, baby smile, baby laugh

A baby's laugh is infectious.

There’s an adorable video of a laughing baby that has gone viral. It’s not just a gurgle or a chuckle, but a hearty bellowing laugh, and it’s a feel good moment worth watching.

The baby, Micah starts to hysterically laugh when her dad, Marcus McArthur rips up a piece of paper. McArthur is currently finishing up doctoral work at St. Louis University and looking for a professor position. After he reads the rejection letter, he innocently tears it in half which produces an enthusiastic laugh from Micah. When he sees her amusement he continues to rip it in several pieces getting a resounding giggle each and every time.

First posted on San Francisco Chronicle’s Mommy Files blog, the video has over 4 million hits in YouTube so far.

This video might go to show you that despite all the fancy and educational toys, sometimes the simplest thing can be the most fun.

In fact, I tend to think that’s true in just about every situation. If you look back on the time spent with your kids and pick out a favorite memory, I’d be willing to bet it’s not the extravagant vacation or the most expensive toy. Some of my favorite memories with my kids and of my own childhood consist of us laughing around the kitchen table over absolutely nothing. Laughing is contagious. Have you ever started laughing solely because someone else was and their laughter just made you crack up?

It’s been said that children laugh 300 times a day compared to adults who laugh just 15 times a day. It’s astounding how dramatically laughter declines with age. Yet I do tend to think that if we all just lighten up for just a little while each day, we can gain back some of the childhood excitement and carefree ways we once had.

This video is a good start. Watch for yourself and see if this doesn’t make your day a little brighter. It’s just a few short minutes and will lift whatever mood you’re in, trust me.

Happy Friday!
