Layers: How to Use Your Child’s Whole Wardrobe Year-Round

how to dress in layers, target girls clothes, target boys clothes, kids clothes, layering for warmth

The pants and shirt work on their own, but add a cozy fall/spring sweater dress on top for warmth in the winter.

Layered looks not only help you get the most out of your kids’ clothes, they also go a long way to keeping your children warm or cool enough as their environment changes. I dress my daughter in layered looks a lot because they help me use her summer clothes into winter. For example, add a basic long-sleeved tee underneath a short-sleeved tee, then throw a sweatshirt or fleece over that and there are two layers she can keep on or remove as needed. Hot in gym class? Lose the hoodie and short-sleeved tee. Cold in the cafeteria? Put one or both back on. I also use zip-up sweaters over cap-sleeved summer dresses paired with heavy tights to make warm-weather looks work in the cold.

Here are some layered looks you can put together from Target’s current selection of boys’ and girls’ clothes that will help you maximize the wear you get out of your kids’ wardrobes:
