In honor of National Kindergarten Day today (April 21st) we want to celebrate reading! The love of reading starts early. All of our children started out with board books that included letters, shapes and colors. It’s been so fun to see our children progress into great young readers. From the pages with a few words to full-on chapter books, we are big fans of reading in our homes! Reading to our kids is not just about reading, it’s also about quality together time. Whether we are reading to our kids or they are reading to us, sharing our love of books is one of our families favorite things.
To keep reading from becoming a chore our family we’ve really made an effort to make it a positive experience right from the start. We changed it up and tried different things. Here are some ideas for your family to enjoy. Make it fun! Take turns picking books, climb into bed, pile up the pillows, and snuggle up together. Or make it an outing head to the library to check out books, bring a blanket and have a book picnic. Go to the book store and pick out a book as a reward for good behavior. The key is to try to enjoy reading time together!
