Mars, Venus, and Social Networking

In a nutshell, women defriend and men embarrass themselves on social media.

According to AFP, a recent study by Pew Research Center’s Internet and American Life Project found that men are nearly twice as likely to embarrass themselves by posting something they later regret (cue soft porn meme) on social networking sites like Facebook than women. Surprised? I didn’t think so.

Women on the other hand, were quicker to defriend on social networking sites than men by about 9%. The ladies were also 19% more likely to set their profiles to private than their male counterparts.

Why do you think that is? Do women have a greater emotional response to social network status updates than men? I have to wonder.

About half of both men and women surveyed found Facebook’s privacy settings to be confusing. Are you listening Mr. Zuckerberg?

One thing remains crystal clear, Facebook isn’t going anywhere. Since 2009, Facebook’s popularity has grown by 20%…um, thanks mom and dad.

Do the results of the study surprise you?
