It might sound a little weird, but it’s a lot awesome.
We’ve seen flash mob proposals, flash mob Christmas carols, and now there’s even news of flash mob robberies. But a pre-surgery flash mob?
As The Huffington Post reports, Deborah Cohan was headed into a double mastectomy when the Ob/Gyn and mom of two held a dance party with her medical team.
The awesome 6-minute video takes place in the operating room of Mt. Zion Hospital in San Francisco. It shows Cohan shaking her groove thang to Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied.”
It might seem a little strange to express such joy right before a serious surgery, and it also might seem like the most natural time in the world to be thankful to be alive. It’s also worth noting how great it is that our perceptions of mastectomies are changing, and we’re realizing our womanhood is in no way linked to our breasts. As The Huffington Post so poignantly notes, “Facing a double mastectomy with grace takes courage. Facing one with courage and joy is extraordinary.”
Check it out. Get on with yo bad self, Deb.
