Bath Salts – the newest street drug that is wrecking havoc on recreational drug users – continues to make news with the bizarre actions of those who are under its influence.
Take the insane “zombie face eating” cannibalistic attack back in May, or the tale of a 48-year-old woman attacking her mother with a machete – those are just a few among a slew of other crazy behavior that’s happened to bath salt users. The drug, which also goes by brand names like Blizzard, Blue Silk, and Ivory Snow, now has another abuser making the news, and this time it happened in a place you would least expect it: in a maternity ward.
According to reports from the Altoona Mirror, a woman is facing charges stemming from her actions at the hospital just days after the birth of her son. Thirty-one-year-old Carla J. Murphy allegedly smoked the drug in her hospital room, stripped naked, writhed around the bathroom floor, and then went on to assault the nurses coming to her aid, as well as the hospital security guards.
The new mom was apparently completely out of it, was unable to answer basic questions, and was “not of sound mind.” When the security guards checked her belongings they reportedly found drug paraphernalia and a white powder that Murphy said was “Disco,” (apparently not the music kind).
When the guards and the nurses attempted to get Murphy back into bed, she reportedly got extremely violent, punching a nurse, kicking others, and trying to bite one of the officers. The new mom was arrested and handcuffed, and in the process kicked yet another nurse.
Murphy was taken to Blair County Prison due to a probation violation for an outstanding warrant for her arrest. As for the baby, a case worker went to the home to inspect it to see if everything was a-okay, with Murphy’s boyfriend allowing them to look around. According to the Altoona Mirror, they found “an array of drug paraphernalia, including needles, aluminum foil, Blizzard containers and a broken glass bottle with brown residue on it.” They didn’t do a very good job at even trying to hide their drug use!
The two are both facing charges, with Murphy facing “charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, public drunkeness and harassment as well as several drug counts including felony possession of a designer drug.”
Let’s hope we don’t see more moms – or really anyone – abusing this destructive street drug.
